Wayne was known city wide for his athletic abilities. In 1979 he received a scholarship from Centenary College in baseball and played under Coach James Farrar. He was being watched by scouts from Boston and Cincinnati when he had a knee injury one weekend playing basketball for fun and his chances of going to a minor league farm team were cut short.
Wayne went on to play for numerous softball teams in the Shreveport-Bossier area. While playing on the Home Depot traveling team, they went on to win a World Championship in softball.
Wayne umpired softball and worked football games at Evangel Christian Academy for many years. He also loved to read, loved history, and sports recruiting. He loved all of his dogs he had, Toby, Ronnie, and Dakota.
