Wilmor Gene Emory passed away on a September afternoon at the home he loved in Keithville, LA with his wife by his side. He was 81 years old and had been battling gastric cancer for almost five years when he finally succumbed to liver cancer.
Wilmor was born on February 27, 1937 in Malvern, AR as the first child of the union between Clara Lee Harrison Emory and Earl Lewis Emory, Sr. He was greeted by his two older half-brothers, Dayton and Earl Emory, Jr. He died on September 25, 2018 at 2:00 PM under the care of Willis-Knighton Hospice.
Wilmor was saved when he was 12 years old and was currently a member of Westwood Baptist Church in Keithville, LA. In 1955, he graduated from Hall Summit High School. When he was a young child, he learned the carpentry trade from his father but was unable to continue to pursue that occupation because of the loss of his left arm as the result of a cancerous tumor. He then began a career as a Salesman/Estimator for Handyman, Inc. and Mr. Contractor but had to retire from that vocation due to an eye disease, which left him legally blind.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Holt Emory; his daughter, Victoria Emory Douglas and her husband, Jack; his beautiful granddaughters: Stephanie Smith Richey and her husband, John and their son, Cody; Jessica Lucienne Turner and her husband, Anthony and their children, Ayla, Avey, and Kota; and Lynnette Davis.
He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Moseley and husband, Walter; Linda Wall and husband, Eugene; Faye Banks; and David Earl Emory and his wife, Elaine; a special son-in-law, Robert Davis and his wife, Donna; the mother of his children, Jane Powell and her husband, Ken; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his daughter, Peggy Emory Moody; his brothers, Dayton L. Emory, Earl Emory, Jr., Philip Wayne Emory, Roy Emory, Carl Emory, Larry Emory; and sisters, Betty Lou Gumm and Shirley Wilkinson.
In spite of all the misfortunes in his life, Wilmor always maintained a positive attitude and had the gift of encouragement. He rarely complained or spoke negatively about others. He was a fine man, a wonderful husband and father and the grandest of granddads. Wilmor was looking forward to celebrating his 20th wedding anniversary on November 21 with his wife, Nancy. While saddened by the loss of Wilmor, the family is elated that he once again has two arms and perfect vision.
Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Rose-Neath Southside. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 30, 2018 at the funeral home, with Rev. Erik Resendez and Rev. David Venable officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Coushatta, LA.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Turner, John Richey, David Lee Emory, Eugene Wall, Zachary Parker, and Patrick Carlson.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Maxwell McDonald, Dr. Michael Durci, and the staff at Willis-Knighton Cancer Center for their outstanding care. Our deepest gratitude is extended to our friends and neighbors, who made Wilmor's last days easier. We are most appreciative of all the prayers that were lifted up on his behalf.
