Wilma Joyce Mayfield

Wilma Joyce Mayfield was welcomed into this world on January 12, 1946 to William and Zelma Fowler in National City, California.  Wilma completed her journey here on earth on October 10, 2023 and was greeted into heaven with wonderful tears of joy.  Standing at those gates with hugs and kisses were her parents, (husband) Bobby Mayfield, (son) Russell Wilson, (grandson) Eric Thomasson, (sisters) Katherine Hackel and Bobby Vaughn, and (brothers) Bill and Richard Fowler.

Left to cherish Wilma’s memory is her (daughter) Sherry and husband, Sam Thomasson, (daughter) Carol and husband, Jeff Schoof, (daughter) Annette and husband, Danny Mathews, (son) Jimmy Dement Jr., and (son) Matthew Dement.

Wilma was blessed with numerous grandchildren, Nicole Helmer, Jeffrey Rabb, Jordon Taylor, Sean Thomasson, Josh Thomasson, Zachery Mathews, Fox Dement, Cash Dement, Julianne Dement, and Ryder Dement.  Wilma also had 10 great-grandchildren.  Special friends were Sonya Riley who would take her to appointments, take her to lunch, and even wheeled her around Walmart.  Cheryl Purvis who called and checked on her every day, Sue Punch who drank coffee with her every day and brought her meals, Jean Neill who always was there for her, Cindy Farr who helped her with errands and appointments, Debbie Hissom who would check on her or bring her supplies when the power was out, and Angela Green who worked in the community, who was always there for Wilma, Angela would stop when she wasn’t on her schedule and check on Wilma and became a dear friend.

Wilma loved visiting with all of her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed painting, writing stories, was an extra in a few movies, loved Christmas (kept her tree up year-round), was fond of the color yellow and sunflowers (I didn’t think I was going to get her out of Hobby Lobby the first time she went).  Wilma had read all the first lady’s autobiographies.  She LOVED watching the Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon (you were not allowed to call during this time).  Wilma was a member of Countryside Baptist Church in Keithville, Louisiana. In the past few years, she loved reading Facebook posts, she enjoyed people living their best life and getting to be a part of it. She also managed to occasionally watch TikTok videos.  She always had an encouraging word and wanted everyone to do what made them HAPPY.

The family would like to thank Willis-Knighton for her wonderful care over the past few years, The Glen Retirement Center (special thanks to her nurses, Brian and Rachael at the Glen), all the Hospice nurses and volunteers and Dr. Anil Veluvolu at WK Cancer Center for all the special treatment during her lengthy illness.
