On Monday, June 8, 2020, Wilma Elaine Berney Mayton known to family and friends as "Duck" passed away at her home after a short illness at the age of 81 years old.
She was born February 19, 1939 in Blanchard, Louisiana to Henry and Thelma Berney. At the time of her death she resided in Vivian, Louisiana.
Elaine worked outside the home before she begun to lose her eyesight at the age of 35 due to retina pigmentosa. The phone became her lifeline to the outside world. She talked for hours to friends and neighbors across the country. Elaine loved country music and enjoyed going out and listening to local bands.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Thelma Berney and brother, Henry Berney Jr. Elaine will be remembered by her children, Rick Grandmaison and his wife, Becky of Bivins TX, Becky Thibodeau and husband, Gary of Albion ME, Vicky Davis and husband, Tim of McLeod TX, Scott Brooks and wife, Angela of Rodessa LA, and Richard "Punkin" Brooks of McLeod TX. She will also be remembered by her special grandson, Austin Brooks, and grandsons Justin, James, and Jason Grandmaison; Derick and Cody Dow; Bert, Dennis, and Eric Gogan; Dalton and J.D. Brooks and only granddaughter, Tiffany Brooks; sixteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ellen Burge and Mary House and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Elaine's life will be held Thursday, June 18, 2020 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Blanchard Church of the Nazarene 251 North Main St., Shreveport, LA 71107 with Pastor Delbert Terry officiating.
