William Arthur Grammer, Jr.

William Arthur "Bill" Grammer, Jr., 92, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away surrounded by family on July 13, 2026, after a lengthy illness.

Born at home in Benton, Louisiana, on April 1, 1934, Bill was an excellent student and accomplished athlete participating in multiple sports. He was a particularly gifted baseball player, and as a left-handed catcher, he was recruited by, and eventually played baseball for, the Centenary Gents.

After college, Bill worked for Otis Engineering in South Louisiana. In 1961, Bill returned to North Louisiana and joined Prudential Insurance Company as an Insurance Agent. During his thirty-year career with Prudential, he was a highly respected sales leader and achieved his (CLU) Chartered Life Underwriter certification. Providing stellar service to his customers was so important to Bill that his business card listed not only his work number, but also his home number. Bill was also very active in his neighborhood, serving as a founding member of the Captain Shreve Neighborhood Association from 1981 to 2013. He oversaw Government Relations for the association and successfully protected the neighborhood from zoning changes that would have negatively impacted the area he cared so deeply about.

Bill thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family. His children and grandchildren loved hearing their "Big Daddy" tell of exciting adventures in the oil fields around Houma and on oil rigs in the Gulf of America as well as stories of his life as a country boy growing up in Benton. Bill enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, golf, and spending time with his close friends, especially members of the Co-Wed class at First Methodist Church.

Bill is survived by his wife of 72 years and the love of his life, Yvonne Spiva Grammer; his three daughters, Kay Grammer Camp of Shreveport, Julie Grammer Shusko (Mike) of Houston, Texas, and Shawn Grammer Bianca (Jon) of Ocklawaha, Florida; his grandchildren, Eric Camp (Karla), Leigh Camp (Tyler), Haydon Camp (Jacquelyn), Joseph Bianca, Mary Bianca Weaver (Ryan), Alex Shusko, Samuel Shusko, and John Shusko; his great-grandchildren, Nicholas Camp, Cameron Camp, Evelyn Camp, and Anthony Weaver; his bonus great-grandchildren, Phoenix Medina and Joshua Margeson; his nieces, Bevely Coker Little and Paula Coker Flowers; and his nephew, Bruce Coker.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held at Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, on Sunday, October 4, 2026. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm followed by the Memorial Service at 1:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends and family to support the American Lung Association (American Lung Association).
