Shreveport - A Memorial service celebrating the Life of Wayne Floyd Stoddard, III, 82, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at Noel Memorial United Methodist Church, 520 Herndon St., Shreveport, La., with the Rev. Mimi McDowell officiating.
Wayne was born Dec. 4, 1935, in Shreveport, La., to Marie Beatrice Magnani Stoddard and Wayne Floyd Stoddard, Jr., and passed away Oct. 18, 2018, in Shreveport, La. He graduated from C.E. Byrd High School and Centenary College, and earned a Master of Social Work degree at Louisiana State University. Wayne was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and a lifelong member of Noel Memorial United Methodist Church.
Wayne faithfully served his country for 35 years as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring in 1995 as a lieutenant colonel. He was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant after graduating from Centenary and trained at Ft. Jackson, S.C. Wayne later served with the 114th Evac Hospital in Shreveport.
Following the completion of his graduate degree, Wayne spent more than 30 years serving the community as a psychiatric social worker at LSU Health Sciences Center, formerly Confederate Memorial Medical Center, in Shreveport. He also tended to the mental health and well-being of local families through his private practice.
For the majority of his life, Wayne was an avid outdoorsman. He was a hunter and fisherman with a great respect and appreciation for the natural world, and he shared that love of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 54 years, Margetta Spears Stoddard. He will be greatly missed by his children, Jolayne Stoddard Faherty (Jack), William Robert Stoddard and Jonathan Scott Stoddard, and his beloved grandchildren. Also left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Marie Stoddard Rosenblath and Polly Stoddard Tilbury (Ross), and his nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the members of the Upper Room Class at Noel Memorial United Methodist Church for their many years of cherished friendship.
