We are sad to announce the passing of a sweet, kind, generous and God-fearing father, Glendal “Wayne” Davis, who departed this life on April 29, 2026, at the age of 82.
Wayne was born on January 6, 1944, in DeRidder, Louisiana. He grew up in Shreveport and graduated from Woodlawn High School. His passion for sports led to a pivotal victory that changed his life and established Woodlawn’s football legacy shortly after the school opened in 1960. Wayne was honored as Woodlawn’s first All-State player and subsequently played for Louisiana Tech in Ruston on a scholarship. He later signed with the Charleston Rockets, a professional team.
In 1971, Wayne earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern State University (NSU), followed by a master’s degree from Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS). He dedicated his career to education and coaching, teaching physical education at Meadowview Elementary and Stockwell Place Elementary. He retired after 22 years of service as an educator and coach at Stockwell Place allowing him more time with his children who carried on championship titles to honor his legacy.
He is survived by his son, Colton Wayne Davis and wife Michelle; daughter, Lindsey Davis and spouse Jeff. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Colton Jr., Cayden, and Kyleigh Davis; Blake, McKynsie, and Ryder; and Gage, Tripp, and Cash. Wayne is also survived by the mother of his children, Ranita; his brother, Larry Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends who will continue to honor his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Hazel Davis, and his brother, Kenny Davis.
Wayne will be remembered for the love he gave, the lessons he shared, and the legacy he leaves behind through his family.
Services celebrating his life will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Southside, located at 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana 71118. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The ceremony will be officiated by Pastor Dennis Aaron.
Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit remains forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
