Wanda Marie Stewart

Wanda was born January 13, 1941, in Minden, LA and peacefully went into the arms of Jesus on September 16, 2025.

Wanda was the secretary at Doyline High School for 26 years. She was loved by hundreds of students throughout her tenure. In her later years, she worked as a substitute teacher at DHS, where she was known to bribe students with fresh baked cookies in exchange for good behavior. She was known throughout the village of Doyline for her kindness, her generosity, and of course, her style. In her memory, we’d like to ask her family and friends to wear pink, red, or leopard print to her services.

Left to honor her memory are her children, Tony Stewart and Sheila Trammel (Chet), her grandchildren, Mallory Stewart and Zachary Trammel (Morgan), her sister, Jo Ann Johnson, a special daughter, Theresa Alexander, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family all whom she loved dearly.

She is proceeded in death by her loving husband, Melvin Etsel, her parents, Edgar H. Merritt and Alice Merritt, and her brother Eddie Merritt Jr.

Visitation will be held at Rose Neath Funeral Home in Minden on Thursday September 18, 2025, from 4 pm until 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at Rose Neath Chapel in Minden at 12pm Friday September 19, 2025, with Bro. Mark McWhiney officiating, followed by the burial at The Lighthouse Church in Doyline.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Minden Medical Center Rehabilitation and Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, and a special thanks to two very special ladies, Allison Lofton and Katoria Theus.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research
