Wanda Bernice Busey

Wanda, Aunt Sister to family and Juanice to friends, was born on July 18, 1931 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Orley and Aldeane Busey. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at the age of 92. She was a lifelong resident of Shreveport and graduated from Fair Park High School.

Aunt Sister was very proud of her Native American Osage Heritage. She enjoyed going to POW WOWs in Winnebago, Nebraska, thank you Everett, until she was in her early 80s. She collected Native American artifacts and would take them to schools and give presentations about her heritage.

She retired from Woolco where she worked in the printing department making signs for the store displays. When asked if she was allergic to anything, she would always say work.

Juanice was a Christian with a servant’s heart known for taking friends and neighbors to the store and bank. She was a member of Ellerbe Road Methodist Church.

She did water aerobics with her friends until she was in her 80s. In recent years she liked doing word find books and reading her “funny books.” She always “had a funny” to tell you. Aunt Sister also very much enjoyed giving phone spammers a dose of their own medicine. You could say she was strong, independent, and maybe a little, okay a lot, stubborn but she was “good people.”

Juanice was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jeanene; grandparents and other relatives and friends. She is survived by her nephew, Jimmy McLeroy and wife, Annie; niece, Patti Lee and husband, Dale; great-niece and nephew, Amanda and Brett and great-great-niece, Chloe.

Services will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 10:00 a.m. Officiating the service will be Reverend John Korlaske. A graveside service will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Road in Shreveport.

Honoring Aunt Sister as pallbearers will be Jimmy McLeroy, Dale Lee, Brett Lee, Don Lee, and Kerry Gibson.

Special thanks to Everett for all the POW WOW trips, weekly lunches and visits. Also, thanks to her neighbor and friend, Rose, for always watching out for her and Beth, for the rides to church, lunches afterwards, rides to the doctor, etc. Also thank you, Essie, her sitter, who quickly became her friend, for your awesome care. Special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, especially Brenda Williams. You are truly an angel on earth. Thank you, Rev. John and her church family, for everything you did for her and us. Thank all of you for the prayers and visits. God bless all of you.
