Walter Bison, Jr., 90, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 2, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana after a lengthy illness.
Services will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held Monday at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service at Rose-Neath. Officiating the service will be Rev. Willis Dear.
Walter was born January 28, 1931, first born son of Walter Bison, Sr. and Lavern Hanson Bison. Surviving siblings include Donald Bison, Patsy Stockman and Linda Daspit and deceased sibling, Kenny Bison.
Living in and around the Shreveport area all his life, Walter could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. Figuring out how to do something that hadn't been done before was his special talent. After graduating Byrd High School and Louisiana Tech University, he returned to Keithville to work with his father building Fairview Farm Dairy. Then starting a new adventure with Bison Farm Supply, he served the farm/dairy community for many years. Walter shared a special friendship and bond with his fellow dairymen and customers, always sharing with his family the stories of being with and working for these friends.
As a member of the Summer Grove United Methodist Church, Walter served his Lord in many capacities with his gifts - his hands, his time, and his heart. He started and headed a bible study men's group lasting eight years. They shared many great meals and fellowship.
Walter said many times that he was blessed to have loved twice in his life. He is preceded in death by first wife, Jean, and his second wife of almost 60 years, Florence; a son, Charles; and granddaughter, Noel. Surviving children left to cherish his memory and follow his example of a strong faith and giving-of-self are Charlene Eberhardt (Frank), Jennette McCloy (Frank), Paul Bison (Debby); eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren that will miss PawPaw.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to St. Judes Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, Summer Grove United Methodist Church, or Louisiana Methodist Children's Home.
