Vivian Hamaker

Vivian was born on September 24, 1935 in Shelbyville, Texas and went home to the Lord on Thursday, May 8, 2025 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was the fourth child of six of Arvie and Della Shofner.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 21 years, Reverend W. Dwayne Furlow; her second husband and soul mate of 41 years, C. J. Hamaker; and grandsons, Mathew Furlow and Ethan Hamaker.

She is survived by her children, Ronnie Furlow and wife, Donna, Randy Hamaker and wife, Sheila, Glen Gordon and wife, Remy, Nancy Nugent and husband, Allen and Kathy Furlow; grandchildren, Kaley Dirks and husband, Clay, Nathan Hamaker and wife, Lizzie, Miranda Campos and husband, Brian, Allie Hamaker and fiancé, Travis Williams, Tammy Rogers and husband, Sam, Chris Nugent, Kevin Gordon and wife, Boo, Susanne Smith and husband, Greg; and three great-grandchildren, Cooper and Jack Hamaker, and Daisy Williams.

Vivian graduated Shelbyville High School in 1953 and later that year married her high school sweetheart, Dwayne Furlow. She started her career with the “Ma Bell Systems” in Center, Texas. In 1957, her husband went into the ministry and in 1964 moved to Shreveport where she served as the Pastor’s wife at Central Missionary Baptist Church for 10 years. After losing her husband in 1974, she moved her membership and served the Lord at Calvary Baptist Church. In 1982, she married her soul mate, C. J. Hamaker. She retired from the “Ma Bell Systems” in Shreveport with 29 years of service. In 2002 she and C. J. moved their membership to Summer Grove Baptist Church where she served until she was called home.

A visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with services to follow at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, located at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, LA 71118. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Center, Texas. Officiating will be Jesse Burns.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials or donations be made to the youth ministry at Summer Grove Baptist Church.
