A visitation for Valinda Jean Wolfe will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Rose-neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana.
Valinda Jean Wolfe, maiden name McIlvain, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, in Bossier City, Louisiana, at the age of 71, following an 18-month courageous fight against pancreatic cancer. She was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and carried her warmth, strength, and unwavering devotion to family with her throughout her life.
Valinda graduated from Perkins Tryon High School in 1973 and continued her education at Northern Oklahoma College, where she earned her associate’s degree. She then attended Oklahoma State University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in 1981. On April 3, 1982, she married Steve Wolfe, the love of her life. Together, Steve and Valinda made their home in Shreveport, Louisiana, where they built a life rooted in love, family, and community.
Valinda began her career in education, where she taught science and coached women’s basketball. Sports were always close to her heart, and coaching allowed her passion, determination, and natural leadership to shine. In 1991, she stepped away from teaching and coaching and soon welcomed her son, Matthew, into the world. Motherhood became her greatest and most cherished role. Valinda was a devoted and loving mother who balanced warmth with structure, guiding Matthew with steady love, clear expectations, and discipline rooted in care. While those lessons were not always fully appreciated in youth, they grew into deep gratitude in adulthood, especially the respect and values she worked so hard to instill.
Valinda later followed another calling and entered nursing school, graduating as a registered nurse in 1994. Nursing was a source of immense pride for her, and she devoted herself to caring for others until her retirement in 2023. Her intelligence, work ethic, and genuine compassion defined her career, just as they defined her life.
She was also an exceptional homemaker who found deep joy in creating a beautiful, welcoming home. Valinda loved home renovations and took special pleasure in decorating for holidays and the changing seasons. Caring for her yard was a true labor of love. Gardening brought her great happiness, and she could often be found outside each day, tending to it with care and pride. Later in life, she enjoyed bicycling, swimming, watching sports, and spending meaningful time with her husband, her son, and her beloved dogs, Levi and Cora.
Valinda was determined and hardworking, yet deeply loving, intelligent, and genuine. She was stubborn in the best sense of the word. Once her mind was set, she followed through with quiet strength and steady resolve. She was the glue that held her family together, always helpful, encouraging, and comforting to those she loved. Her presence alone brought life and warmth into a room, making a house feel like home simply because she was there.
Valinda is survived by her mother, Norma McIlvain; her husband, Steve Wolfe; her brother, Jimmie McIlvain; her sister, Candy Bruce; and her son, Matthew Wolfe. She was preceded in death by her father, Coach Ditz McIlvain.
What will be missed most are the everyday moments. Steve will miss leaning over to give her a kiss. Matthew will miss hugging her when he comes into town. Family and friends will miss picking up the phone and hearing her voice. Valinda will be missed not just in the big moments, but in the quiet, ordinary parts of life where her love was always present.
Her legacy lives on in the respect she taught, the warmth she shared, and the love she gave so freely.
