Tunis C. Gaston

LISBON, LA: Funeral services will be held for Mr. Tunis C. Gaston, 93, at Rocky Springs Baptist Church in Lisbon, LA on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Rusty Gilbert and Rev. Larry Sellers, officiating. Interment will follow at Rocky Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday, from 5-8 p.m. Mr. Gaston was born June 28, 1926 in Lisbon, LA, to Robert C. and Sallie McDonald Gaston. He entered into rest on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 in Arcadia, LA. Mr. Gaston served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II, where he was stationed in Japan. He worked in the oilfield industry for over 40 years. Mr. Gaston was known for his kind heart, gentle spirit and unbelievable work ethic. He was a wealth of knowledge when it came to Claiborne Parish and the families that lived in the surrounding area. History unfolded as he spoke of events and industries that brought people into Claiborne parish for employment. Mr. Gaston stayed active in the community and served on the Claiborne Parish School Board. He was as a deacon at Rocky Springs Baptist Church and did upkeep of records and maintenance of the cemetery for many years. Mr. Gaston loved his family and passed on his passion for details. Mr. Gaston was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Vertis Virginia Hinze Gaston. He is survived by two sons, Tommy Gaston and wife Cindy of Lisbon, LA, and Denis Gaston and wife Pat of Summerfield, LA; three grandchildren, Eric Gaston of Lisbon, LA, Brian Gaston of Lisbon, LA, and Hayley Gaston of West Monroe, LA; three great grandsons, Carter, Maddox and Ryder; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Floyd Burns, Gabe Hogan, Darrell Pepper, Paul Wayne Pepper, Danny Lee, Joe McDonald, David Owens, and Jay Nissen. Honorary pallbearer will be Bill Kennedy, Buddy Carey, and Deacons of Rocky Springs Baptist Church, active and inactive. In lieu of flowers honoring Mr. Gaston, his family suggests memorials be made to Rocky Springs Cemetery.
