Funeral services for Tommy Wayne Thompson, 72, will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, Louisiana at 1:00 p.m. A visitation will be held Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating the funeral will be Aaron Johnston. Tommy was born on April 17, 1949 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Virgil Lee Thompson and Edna Louise Hassel Thompson and passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021 in Shreveport. Tommy graduated from Hector High School in Hector, Arkansas in 1967 and the University of Maryland, European Campus. He was in the United States Army from 1967 to 1988 retiring at the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC). He served at Fort Polk, Louisiana, did three tours of duty in Vietnam, Fort Gordon, Georgia, Ft. Carson, Colorado, West Berlin, Germany, Amarillo, Texas and Heidelberg, Germany. Tommy was a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. His hobbies included gardening, motorcycle riding when he was able, traveling all over the US in his RV, fishing, and reading. He had a cleft chin, baby blue eyes, big gentle hands, wide feet, and tattoos on his arms. Tommy is preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Henry M. Smothers, mother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Smothers; brother, Freddie Lee Thompson; and an unborn grandchild. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of over 46 years, Janie Marie Thompson; son, Christopher Michael Thompson and wife Susan; daughter, Toni Leigh Thompson-Johnston and husband, Aaron; grandchildren, Robert Parks Carrouth, Christina Renee Thompson, Holden Wayne Thompson, Aiden Michael Thompson; sister, Janice Owens; brother, Billy Thompson; a host of nieces and nephews; his granddog, Rally; and extended family members and many friends. Honoring Tommy as pallbearers will be Christopher M. Thompson, Aaron Johnston, Billy Thompson, Bo Thompson, Johnny Thompson, Steve Owens, Karl R. Granger, Sr. and Danny Foster. The family suggests memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Order of the Purple Heart or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
