Tommy R. O' Con

Funeral service for Tommy Robert O' Con, age 64, of Robeline, will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2020, at First Baptist Church in Robeline. Private family visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. and public visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Robeline. Mr. O' Con was born on October 28, 1955, in Natchitoches and he died on August 20, 2020, in Shreveport after a brief illness. He was a member of the New Beginnings Apostolic Church of Bryant, Arkansas. Tommy was a dedicated Christian husband, father and grandfather. He died on "National Radio Day," which was very fitting, as he was a talented radio announcer for many years and had recently created an online Southern Gospel/Contemporary Gospel radio station. Tommy served as Mayor of Robeline for 32 years and was the youngest mayor ever elected in the United States. He also served as Natchitoches Parish Constable for 5 years and as Deputy and Dispatcher for Sabine and Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Offices. Tommy was a former pastor at Saline United Pentecostal Church. For the past 4 years, he owned and operated the Around the Town Newspaper. Tommy was the son of Albert O' Con and Nellie Fay Strickland O' Con, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by brothers Kenneth and Michael O' Con and sister, Wanda McNeely. He is survived by his wife, Dayna O' Con, son, Seth Alexander and wife, Heather and granddaughter, Hazel. Daughter, Miriam Stewart and husband, Anthony, grandson, Ezekiel and granddaughter, Eliana. Brothers A. J. and Gordon O' Con and sisters, Judy Lee and husband, Luther, and Janene Hamous. Officiating the service will be Pastor Ryan McNeely, Pastor Amos Brown and Pastor Jim Whitley. Pallbearers will be Seth Alexander, Ezekiel Martinez, Kevin O' Con, Wayne O' Con, Tony O' Con, Reese McNeely, Devin Lewis and David Garlington. Honorary Pallbearers: David Stallings, Clauriste Byles, Jr., Louie Bernard, George Foreman, Dan Dyess, Russell Rachel, Billy Weeks, Carl Walters, Bishop Kelvin Stewart and countless others. The family wishes to thank Dr. Anil S. Matta, Dr. Sujatha Gubbala and to include the following tributes from the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Department and the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Department. Tommy was the Natchitoches Parish Ward 3 Constable, served as Robeline Mayor for over 30 years, was a former Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Deputy, Organizer of the Robeline Heritage Festival, Publisher of Around the Town an online publication and served in many civic and community events. While working in the communications division at the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office as a radio operator, Tommy trained some deputies that still remain at the NPSO. While working at Baldrige Dumas communications he became well known as our local news guy. Tommy also hosted the gospel favorites program for many years.
