Thomas “Tommy” Richard Smith, 79, was born on August 23, 1945, to Graydon Richard Smith and Melba Kathleen Turnage in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024 in his home in Plain Dealing, Louisiana.
A proud graduate of Minden High School, Tommy further enriched his education at Louisiana Tech University. Over the years, he built a solid career, ultimately retiring from the Atlas Processing Company, where he was respected by colleagues and admired for his dedication and work ethic.
In 1966, Tommy made one of the proudest commitments of his life when he married his lovely wife, Judy Claire McGowan Smith. Their union was filled with countless memories of happiness that they shared. The warmth of their bond was evident to all who knew them, standing as a beacon of partnership and devotion.
Beyond his career and family life, Tommy had many hobbies and interests. He was particularly fond of archery, finding peace and challenge in the precision of the sport. During his leisure time, he enjoyed games and movies, often sharing those moments with friends and family. Tommy also had a special place in his heart for Boston Terriers, whose gentle companionship brought him much happiness.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Claire McGowan Smith; children, Karen Villalba, Jeffery Smith, and wife, Tracey, and Stacey M. Smith; grandchildren, Aaron and wife, Alexa, Whitney Brown, and Mathew. Also left to cherish his memory are his great-grandchildren; sister, Jenny French and husband, George, and nephews, Chase and Logan Wimberly.
