Sybil Kelly

Sybil Kelly was born on June 23, 1929, in Shreveport, Louisiana, and passed away at age 96 on Monday, January 26, 2026, in Bossier City, Louisiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Lamar Kelly and Nettie Lou Oden Kelly; brother, Jack Edwin Kelly, and nephew, Mike Kelly.

She is survived by her loving family, Philip and Pam Ewald, Amanda Ewald, Brittney Ewald, Ben Ewald, and honorary family members, Nathan Jackson, Samantha Norton, and Jenny Cross Kneschke.

Sybil was a member of the Magnum Methodist Church and recently First Methodist Church in Shreveport. She was a dedicated educator, serving as an elementary school teacher, school librarian, and Sunday School teacher. She was a charter member and Queen Mother of the Red River Hatters, and past national president of Alpha Delta Kappa and Kappa Kappa Lota.

She was involved for many years with Operation Christmas Child, to which she devoted significant time and resources.

Sybil was committed to supporting our deployed military, beginning with care packages during WWII and continuing until recent years. She received numerous awards for her service with all branches of the service, including the Louisiana National Guard Distinguished Citizen Service Medal. In her final year, she took pride in watching planes from Barksdale Air Force Base, referring to them as “her boys.”

She will be cherished for her unwavering faith, her kindness to all, her dedication to service, and the countless lives she touched and made better. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Tunnels to Towers, www.t2t.org.
