Suzanne Spurlock Newell

Suzanne Newell, 58, was born on October 24, 1966 in Arcadia, Louisiana and died on May 10, 2025. She was laid to rest at Old Town Cemetery in Haynesville, Louisiana.

Suzanne and her husband, Danny Newell, became residents of Homer, Louisiana in 1988. Suzanne was a teacher with a Bachelor of Education degree from ULM. After Danny graduated from Tulane Law School in New Orleans, they decided to move back to Homer to be closer to family. Suzanne taught for 15 years, then began to work with Danny in their law firm.

Suzanne and Danny were members of the Cornerstone Church of Homer. Suzanne was very involved in the children’s ministry from the beginning. She taught children’s Sunday school classes and headed vacation bible school on numerous occasions. Many years later she went on to organize and teach a women’s life group at the church. She always had a very strong desire to help others and bring them closer to Christ.

Suzanne was a truly devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She absolutely loved Danny and her family; they were her life. Spending time with her grandchildren was always a priority. No matter what plans she had to cancel or how far she had to drive, she was always willing to help with her “grandbabies.” She always looked especially forward to holidays when her whole family would be together.

She is preceded in death by her father, Derrell Ray Spurlock, and her mother, Dianne Poland.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 39 years, Danny; two children: Trent and wife, Jordan; Carli and husband, Kurtis; and six grandchildren: Kyler, Kayden, Calli, William, Emilia, and James. She is also survived by her siblings, Todd Spurlock, Jennifer Simpson, Ashley Eulate, Ray Spurlock, Stephanie Gantt, and her stepfather, Rusty Poland.

The family extends a sincere and most gracious ‘thank you’ to everyone for reaching out and providing much needed comfort and support during this time.
