Susan Epps Shaw was born on November 20, 1952, in Houston, Texas, and passed away peacefully at her home in Benton, Louisiana, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. She leaves behind a family who loved her dearly and will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.
Adopted shortly after birth by her loving parents, James Clyde and Gladys Epps, Susan was raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she graduated from Captain Shreve High School in 1970. Throughout her life, she worked for South Central Bell and the Caddo Juvenile Justice Office, dedicating many years to her career and serving her community.
Susan was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a woman whose strength and determination carried her through life's many challenges. For more than 20 years, she courageously faced numerous health problems with a remarkable fighting spirit. Even through difficult days, she continued to cherish the people she loved and the experiences that brought happiness to her life. Her perseverance was a reflection of the strength within her and the love that gave her so much to live for.
Above all else, Susan's greatest joy was her family. She was immensely proud of her three sons, Jeff, Matt, and Christian, and loved each of them with all her heart. Being their mother was one of her greatest blessings, and watching her family grow brought her tremendous happiness. Her five grandchildren also held a special place in her heart, and the time she spent with them created memories that her family will carry with them forever. Susan also cherished the adventures she shared with her beloved husband, Chuck, particularly their travels and cruises together. Those special times gave them opportunities to enjoy life side by side and create a lifetime of memories.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, Chuck Shaw; her sons, Jeff Gaydos and wife, Crystal; Matt Gaydos and wife, Julie; and Christian Gaydos and wife, Kari; and her five beloved grandchildren, Logan Gaydos, J.T. Gaydos, Peyton Gaydos, Brady Gaydos, and Camden Gaydos. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Clyde and Gladys Epps.
Although her family grieves the loss of Susan, they are deeply grateful to God for the additional years they were given with her after she suffered a stroke. Those years allowed her to continue loving her family, watching her grandchildren grow, and sharing precious moments with Chuck. While saying goodbye is heartbreaking, they find comfort in knowing how much love surrounded her throughout her life. The example she set through her courage, determination, and devotion to her family will remain a lasting part of the lives she touched.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to KD Rivers and Tammy Tyson for the kindness, compassion, and loving care they provided Susan during the final months of her life. Their gentle support and dedication brought comfort not only to Susan but also to Chuck during an especially difficult chapter of their lives.
The family would also like to recognize and thank Susan's dear friends who were such a blessing to both Susan and Chuck through the years: Barbara Griffin, Elaine Duncan, Linda Windham, Debra Booty, Johanna Kunath, and Ruth Darnell. Their friendship, kindness, and support added so much to Susan's life.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Susan will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Cross Point Baptist Church, 3140 Swan Lake Rd., Bossier City, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery in Bossier City. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating the service will be Pastor Shane Nuggent.
