Sonya Julia Hicks

Services for Sonya Julia Hicks, 63, will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2026 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Marshall Street Chapel, Shreveport, LA. Interment will be at 12:00 p.m. at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Blanchard, LA. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at the funeral home.

Sonya was born in Naples, Italy to parents Julie Trotter and Charles Lee Trotter on July 12, 1963, and passed away on August 4, 2026 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Sonya was married to her husband John F. Hicks for 35 years; she was a beloved wife and devoted mother to Isabella and Samantha. Her favorite role in life was being a mother to her girls and in recent years as “Grandmama” to her “Grandboy” Everett John. She was a teacher’s aide and paraprofessional for 20 years in the Caddo Parish Public School System. She loved watching her LSU Tigers football games with her family. She was a faithful Christian, and her kindness and giving nature were her defining feature to all who knew her, both human and animal. Knowing Sonya was to know love, care, and sweetness.

She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Lee Trotter, and mother-in-law, Marlene Hicks. She is survived by her husband, John F. Hicks; daughters, Isabella Desselle and husband Logan, Samantha Vines and husband Zachary; her grandson, Everett Desselle; her mother, Julie Trotter; aunt, Irma Silva; and cousins Melissa and Kyle Silva, and their spouses and children, and father-in-law, John W. Hicks. She is also survived by many other brothers-and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends who will cherish her memory forever.

Honoring Sonya as pallbearers will be Howell Hicks, Zack Reeve, Caleb Reeve, Jake Madison, Brian Madison, Tracey Burns, Joe Tuggle, Devry Davis and James Coe.
