Sonya Deloraes Gusman

Funeral services for Sonya Deloraes Free Gusman, 52, will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park Wes Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd. in Shreveport. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be Dr. Heath Peloquin. Sonya was born on August 8, 1969 to Gary and Pamela Free at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana and passed away at home on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. Sonya graduated from Deer Park High School in Deer Park, Texas. She received her Associate's Degree from San Jacinto College in Deer Park, Texas to become a paralegal. She had a poem she wrote published in The Poetry Guild's "Great Poems of Today." She married August Gusman on March 14, 2015. Sonya is preceded in death by her father, Gary Free; grandmother, Doris Benson; and grandparents, Arlo and Gloria Free. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, August Gusman; stepdaughters, Megan Gomez, Alyssa, Michaela; stepson, August James Gusman; mother, Pamela Buras; stepfather, Joseph Buras; brother, Keith Free and wife Marlaina; niece, Kailyn Free, Kristen White, Kasey Manshack; nephew, Trevor Free; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Honoring Sonya as pallbearers will be Keith Free, Charles Gaston, Allen Gaston, August James Gusman, Billy Gaston; and August Gusman. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Trevor Free.
