Funeral services for Shirley Catanese Smith, 75, will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Shreveport. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Rev. Steve Casey.

Shirley was born on August 11, 1948 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Phillip Catanese and Josephine Rizzo Catanese and passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023 in Shreveport.

Shirley was a lifelong resident of Shreveport and graduated from Fair Park High School, Class of ‘66. She spent a major part of her career at Shreveport Federal Credit Union as a Loan Officer before retiring. She enjoyed her family and friends. She loved to cook and spend time with her family and friends. Shirley also enjoyed watching old TV shows, taking, and sharing pictures, and playing games. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, and friend to many.

Shirley is preceded in death by her father and mother, Phillip and Josephine Catanese; brother, Phillip Catanese, Jr.; and nephew, Colton Stolzer. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Charley Brown and wife, Kim; granddaughter, Sarah Biles and husband, Michael; step-grandchildren, Connie Lewis and husband, Mike, Carrie Reiser, and Jonathan Cutrer; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosemary Balzrette, and Theresa Peters; brother, Sam Catanese and wife, Jennifer; bonus sister, Judy Futch; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Honoring Shirley as pallbearers will be her nephews and great-nephews, Robert Anderson, Donnie Anderson, William Anderson, Daniel Peters, Mason Peters, and Caleb Stolzer.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Montclair Park Assistant Living, Willis-Knighton Pierremont, Heritage Manor Stratmore, and The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice for taking care of her in her final time of life.

The family suggests memorials may be made to The Parkinson’s Foundation Fund.
