Sherry Lanell Posey Strausman

Sherry Strausman passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024 at the age of 87.  Sherry was known for her sense of humor, her artistic ability, her culinary excellence, her beauty, and her love for her family.

Sherry attended Northwestern State College of Louisiana and majored in Art.  She had an extraordinary talent for art and loved to paint.  Sherry also modeled and participated in pageants.  In 1958, she won the title of Miss Holiday in Dixie.  She went on to represent the state of Louisiana in the annual Washington D.C. Mardi Gras Ball amongst other events throughout Louisiana and Texas.   Sherry modeled for Mister Lynn’s International Modeling Agency.  She modeled for Selber Bros. Department Store and numerous other publications in North Louisiana.  She was always so beautiful!  Sherry was a wonderful cook.  From the culinary classics to the downhome cooking of her Bienville Parish childhood.   If she was not painting or spending time with her children or grandchildren, you could find her with a pencil and newspaper in hand solving crossword puzzles!

Sherry married Harold in 1961.  They loved traveling the world and throughout the United States in their motorhome alongside their beloved dogs.  Sherry and Harold were members of the Audath Achim Synagogue.

Sherry lived a life filled with laughter, art, love, and had a special zest for life.   She lit up every room with her personality and beauty and leaves behind a legacy of laughter and love.   She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all that knew her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Strausman, her parents, Humphrey and Irene Posey, her siblings, Martha Buckmaster, Diane Bonnevier, George Posey and her great grandson Braiden Blount.  She is survived by her children Thais Willis and husband James, Maury Strausman and wife Kim, Bobette Martin and husband Todd.  Grandchildren Shaindel Blount and husband Tommy, Dylan Willis and wife Shelley, Jordan Willis and wife Cassidy, Jaime Martin and husband Danny, Kyle Vines and wife Kim, Karmon Bonaventure and husband Stuart, Kol Strausman, Stanton Martin, Marina Martin, Cameron Martin and many great-grandchildren.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Colonial Oaks, especially her nurse Rakiya, and to her hospice nurse, Shari; thank you for loving her like your own.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St, Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Chaplain Randy Goudeau.
