Senior Master Sargent (SMSGT) Paul Leroy Scott, USAF (Retired) age 89, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, at his home in Homer, Louisiana. He was born on November 17, 1936, in Genoa, Arkansas.
Paul graduated from Texarkana High School in 1955 and soon after answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country for 24 years, retiring in 1977 with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. During his distinguished military career, he served tours of duty in Labrador, Guam and in the Vietnam war.
He was stationed at various bases including Barksdale Air Force Base Bossier City, Louisiana, Carswell Air Force Base Fort Worth, Texas, McGuire Air Force Base Wightstown, New Jersey, Elgin Air Force Base Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Lackland Air Force San Antonio, Texas, Travis Air Force Base San Francisco, California, Kadena Air Force Base Okinawa, Japan and England Air Force Base Alexandria, Louisiana.
As a skilled airplane mechanic, SMSgt. Scott worked on B-47 & B-52 bombers and many other aircraft, playing a vital role in maintaining the strength and readiness of the United States Air Force.
He was awarded numerous awards and decorations including;
In 1959, Paul married the love of his life, Martha Nicholson. They shared 66 years of marriage, building a life grounded in love, Christ, and family. After retiring from the Air Force in 1977, Paul and Martha settled in Homer, Louisiana. Following his military career, Paul was a welder and worked at Ludlow, where he served as a maintenance supervisor for nine years.
Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Martha Nicholson Scott; his parents, Paul Albert Scott and Martha Thomason Scott; his sister, Clara Scott Emerson and her husband, Kenneth Emerson; his brother, David Scott; and his nephew, John Scott.
He is survived by his son, Jeff Scott and wife Sherry; his grandchildren, Victoria Scott Pennington and husband Alex of Newark, Ohio, Sarah Scott of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Chad Webb of Nashville, Tennessee; his sister, Mary Mead of Texarkana, Arkansas; his sisters-in-law, Evelyn Scott of West Monroe, Louisiana, and Linda McHam of Homer, Louisiana and his nephew, Greg McHam of Homer, Louisiana and many more beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
The family extends special gratitude to Pastor Trey Waller, Dr. Cliff Salmon and Hand in Hand Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
A memorial service will be held at Living Word Minden on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Living Word Minden, 440 Hwy 531, Minden, LA 71055, or to the charity of your choice.
Paul Scott will be remembered for his faithful service to his country, his dedication to his work, and most of all, his deep love for his family. His legacy will live on in all who knew and loved him.
