Funeral services for Selma Irene Theriot, 84, will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Park Baptist Church, 5560 Buncombe Rd. in Shreveport. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Officiating the service will be Dr. B.J. “Rocky” Maddox.
Born and raised in West Monroe, Louisiana, Selma grew up with strong roots in family and faith. One day, while visiting the Strand Theatre in downtown Shreveport, fate stepped in. There, she met a young man stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base, Donald Lee Theriot. From that day on, they were inseparable. The two were married on April 30, 1958, and spent over 67 devoted years together, building a life grounded in love, faith, and family.
Selma was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, faithful friend, and Child of the King that entered Heaven on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 2:30 a.m. She was the only child born to Janice King on May 12, 1940.
Selma was a stay-at-home mom; but, come Sunday, for forty-four years, she would take her place in the nursery of many churches, ending at Rose Park Baptist Church. Many young lives were touched by her love and still today these littles, now adults, stayed in touch with Selma and her family.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years, Donald Theriot; her children, William “Billy” and wife, Judy, of Mandeville, LA, Cheryl Evans and husband, Jeff, of Bossier City, LA, and Janice Sanders and husband, Al, of Keithville, LA; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Sammy Johnson, and wife, Jennifer of Shreveport, LA; and “Special Sister” Dianne Wells and husband, Paul of Dunn, LA.
Honoring Selma as pallbearers will be Billy Theriot, Jeff Evans, Al Sanders, Brad Evans, Joseph Sanders, and Eli Chism.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to The Glen Memory Care and Life Path Hospice for their love and support of our precious loved one. Prayers of our church family and friends are felt and appreciated.
Memorials are suggested to Rose Park Children’s Ministry in lieu of flowers.
