Honoring her clear wishes, a graveside service for Sandra “Sandy” Johnson, 88, will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Cemetery, 5185 Swan Lake Rd., Bossier City, Louisiana, with Pastor Donnie Wilkinson officiating.
Sandy was born on December 21, 1936, to Quincy Monroe and Elise Gallien Johnson in Cotton Valley, Louisiana, and passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Sandy was passionate about reading, loved to travel, enjoyed raising flowers, and made the best homemade yeast rolls and peanut butter fudge in town. After high school, business college, and a tour of Europe with her sister, Elaine, Sandy worked as a civilian support to the United States Air Force. In this role, she lived in Korea for several years before returning to the United States to earn degrees in Library Science – her bachelor’s degree from Louisiana Tech and her master’s degree from LSU. She worked as a librarian at Fort Polk before moving to Columbus, Ohio. While in Ohio, Sandy contracted meningitis and lost her hearing. Being a strong-willed Johnson woman, she didn’t let this challenge stop her. She moved back to Bossier City, learned to lip-read, and took a job with technical services at the Bossier Parish Library, where she worked until her retirement.
Sandy brought warmth, kindness, and quiet strength to all who knew her. Whether through a gentle smile or a helping hand, Sandy’s presence was a source of comfort and care. Though gone from our sight, Sandy’s spirit lives on in the hearts and memories of family and friends. We honor her life with love and gratitude.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Quincy Monroe and Elise Gallien Johnson, sister, Elaine Johnson Byrd, and cousin, Ronald Kaiser. Left to cherish her memory are nieces, Lisa Byrd and Stacey Sisco, and brother-in-law, John Byrd.
If anyone wishes to further honor Sandy, please consider a contribution to your local library or literacy initiative of your choice.
