Ruth was born on January 8. 1930, in Monroe, Louisiana to Charles Franklin Horton and Gladys Gayle Pearson Horton and passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026.
Ruth was baptized at First Baptist Church in Monroe, Louisiana, where she served faithfully until she felt the call to join the new church plant, College Place Baptist Church. She loved her church and friends dearly, teaching Sunday School, Training Union, Women's Circle and helping out wherever needed. Upon moving to Shreveport, she served at Calvary Baptist Church as long as she was able. She passed her Christian faith down through the years to her family and prayed for all of us daily, which was such a blessing.
Mother was proud to be a graduate of Northeast Louisiana Junior College. After marrying, she chose to be a stay-at-home wife and mother, getting involved in all the school activities for her children. When the time came for her to start working outside of the home, she chose the medical field. She worked for years at EA Conway in the Medical Records Department in Monroe, and for the LSU Medical Center's Orthopedic Department in Shreveport, retiring from there at the age of 72. Her boss and the past residents she had helped so much, threw a big retirement party for her at Superior Steakhouse, and she loved that they honored her in that way.
Mother loved Christmas and fully believed that every surface in every room should be decorated! One of her joys was hosting her Sunday School class Christmas party every year. She and Ross would start decorating the first week of November, and it was beautiful! All of her family enjoyed going to her house for Christmas Day for many years. Mother loved the Christmas story, and the grandchildren read it aloud each year at our gatherings.
We treasured Mother for her Godly wisdom and her willingness to listen and to guide us, especially in difficult times. Her loving counsel shaped all of our lives.
