Ruth Lewis

A graveside service honoring the life of Ruth Lewis will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 9, 2023 in the B'nai Zion section of  Greenwood Cemetery, 130 East Stoner Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana.

Ruth Lewis was born December 4, 1923, to Oscar and Minnie Manasseh and left this world on Monday, February 6, 2023. She was lucky enough to enjoy a full life. She was a ray of sunshine that lit up every room she entered.

Her humor and vitality gave her so many experiences and memories. She lived through the Great Depression, during which, she and her brother would share an orange once a week as a special treat. She lived through World War II, the atomic age, moon landings, computers, and the internet.

Ruth had expert-level card game skills – she rivaled the best of them. She spent a lifetime playing Rummy Cube and Bingo as well as Canasta, Bridge, Poker, Mahjong, and every version of Solitaire. Those games, and the conversations she had with friends, were two big reasons why she stayed so sharp, up until her final days.

Her wit and sparkling personality will be missed by friends and family. May her memory be a blessing.

She is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Martin J. Lewis; brother, Paul Manasseh; niece, Marcae Manasseh; and nephew, Johnny Manasseh.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Paul Lewis and wife, Sue, and Ellen McGovern and husband, George; grandchildren, Amy Marquis and husband, Colin, Paige McGovern, Leigh Wilson and husband, Josh, and Brandon McGovern and wife, Kelly; great-grandchildren, Zoe and Ethan Marquis, Dayton McGovern, Morgan and Emmett Wilson, and Caleb and Cara McGovern; and nephew, James Manasseh.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to B'nai Zion Congregation, 245 Southfield Rd, Shreveport, LA 71105, or charity of donor's choice.
