Ruth Olline Chaney

A Memorial Service for Ruth Olline Barney Chaney, 83, will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Shreveport Community Church in the Rodney Duron Chapel, 5720 Buncombe Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana with a brief visitation after the service. A graveside service will be held later that same day at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Park East Cemetery, 3700 St. Vincent Avenue in Shreveport. Officiating the service will be Pastor Brian Opbroek.

Ruth was born March 4, 1939 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Lawrence George Barney and Evelyn Marie Scaife Barney and passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Olline attended Westminster College in Tehuacana, Texas where she studied art and Bible. She graduated from Fair Park High School in 1957. In the Art Club, she was voted the most talented. Olline loved working with her plants and flowers in the yard. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She married Ray Chaney on June 17, 1961 in Vivian, Louisiana. She worked as a florist and with fine antiques at Cain’s Antiques and Flowers. She loved playing the piano which she did for the church. She taught her son, Erney, to play the piano as well. Olline loved to play Phase 10, UNO, Dominoes and Chicken Foot. She loved her cats. Olline spent her life encouraging others. She was most passionate about God asking people everywhere she went, “Do you know what day it is?” Then she would tell them, “This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!” She loved spending time with her family. She loved hiking to waterfalls at Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas and the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. She loved her church and supported the “700 Club” and watched it daily. Olline was loved by many. I keep hearing people tell me, “Olline was the sweetest lady I’ve ever  known.”

Olline is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Barbara LaFonne Barney Lamb. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Ray Chaney; son, Erney Chaney; grandchild, April “Ace” Chaney; and six nieces and nephews.

She will be terribly missed by her family and friends, but heaven is blessed to have gained such a beautiful angel.
