Royal Ben "Bennie" Ramsey

Royal Ben “Bennie” Ramsey, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, skilled mechanic, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 21, 2026, in his hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Born on September 16, 1946, Bennie lived a life defined by quiet strength, steady dedication, and deep love for those closest to him. He was a kind and gentle man, known for his calm nature, quick wit, and a sense of humor that brought joy to everyone around him. Though often quiet, his presence spoke volumes, and his laughter was unforgettable to those who knew him best.

A graduate of Haughton High School, Bennie went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Air Force. He was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal upon returning home from Vietnam, a reflection of his commitment and bravery. Following his military service, he carried that same discipline and work ethic into his civilian life, where he built a long and respected career as a mechanic. Bennie took great pride in his work and was known for his skill, reliability, and willingness to lend a helping hand.

Above all, Bennie was a family man. He cherished the life he built with his beloved wife of 54 years, Carol Ramsey, and found his greatest joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren. His love was steady and unwavering, expressed not always in words, but in the countless ways he showed up for his family every day.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Ramsey; his two daughters, Casey Purvis and husband, Timothy of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Erin Land and husband, Robert of Louisville, Mississippi; two sisters, Clara “Becky” Holcomb of Sibley, Louisiana, and Renee Passmore and husband, Phil of St. Charles, Illinois; one brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Ramsey and wife, Vicki of Elm Grove, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Joshua Purvis, Jacob Purvis, and Ramsey Land; along with numerous nieces and nephews who will all miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben E. Ramsey and Fern Ramsey.

A graveside service will be held at Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, Louisiana on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. All who knew and loved Bennie are invited to attend and celebrate the life of a man who lived with integrity, humility, and a quiet but enduring warmth.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald “Ronnie” Ramsey, Timothy Purvis, Robert Land, Joshua Purvis, Jacob Purvis, Richard “Matt” Matthews, and Carter Holbrook.
