Roy Calhoun

Funeral services will be held for Roy Calhoun, age 82, at 3:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia. Bro. Kelly Leach will officiate, with Spencer Best speaking. Interment will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Roy was born May 15, 1941, in Bryceland, LA., to Jesse Lee Calhoun, Sr. and Effie Brown Calhoun.  He passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023, in Ruston, LA. Roy had an extremely outgoing personality, and was never one to meet a stranger. Roy was an owner/operator of Bear Creek Trucking from 1991 until 2016. Roy enjoyed sleeping, watching Gunsmoke, going to church, going out to eat, coon hunting, and visiting with friends and family. Roy’s greatest love was his family. He will be greatly missed by all those that knew him.

Roy is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Gantt Calhoun, his parents, Jesse Calhoun, Sr. and Effie Calhoun, brother, Jesse Calhoun, Jr., nephew, Doug Crawford, Jr., and by infant sister, Mary Ella Calhoun.

Left to cherish his memory are his children; Steve Calhoun and wife Marlene, Victory Calhoun Donaldson, John Calhoun and wife Renae, and Kristy Howard and husband Robby, grandchildren; Steven Calhoun, Jr. Marcus Calhoun, Michael Adkins and wife Jordan, Haley Posey, Miranda Dean and husband Jonathan, Johnathon Calhoun, Brittany Dees, Bradley Calhoun, Robert Stevens, Jr. and wife Lacey, and Madalyn Culbertson and husband Robbie, great grandchildren; Kyndle Calhoun, Addyson and Brennan Stevens, Anna Perritt, Kyleigh Calhoun, Stephen Dean, and Levi Adkins, brother, Carrol Gene Calhoun and wife Betsy, sisters; Sybil Taylor, Eva Crawford and husband Doug, and Barbara Smith and husband Jimmy, sister-in-law, Ivy Calhoun, and by numerous other nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Marcus Calhoun, Johnathon Calhoun, Bradley Calhoun, Michael Adkins, Robert Stevens, Jr., and Robby Howard. Junior Pallbearers will be Brennan Stevens, Levi Adkins, and Stephen Dean. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steven Calhoun, Spencer Best, Dennis Carney, Jonathan Dean, and Robbie Culbertson.
