HOMER, LA: Rollin Harry Cochran, age 94, of Homer went to his eternal home on January 25, 2019, after a brief illness. Rollin was born October 15, 1924, in Toledo, Ohio, to Harriet Sloop Cochran and Rollin Cochran. Rollin was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Boyd Cochran and Ralph Cochran, sister, Marie Ward, a daughter, Deborah Ann, son, Steve Cochran, and grandson, Rebel.He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Minerva Price Cochran, daughter-in-law, Marion Cochran, two sons, Gary Cochran and wife Ruth, and Doug Cochran and wife Cathy, all of Indiana, and a daughter, Robin Staples of Toledo, Ohio, step-children, Chris McCleskey and Syble McCleskey of Searcy Arkansas, Cynthia Sandifer and husband Eric of Homer, and Edith McCleskey of Gatesville, Texas. Twenty-two grandchildren, Jeff and Katie, Jeremy and Christina, Kevin, Kris, Bryon, Kari, Cyndi, Ben and Karla, Brandon, Todd and Courtney, Erin and Bubba, Clint and Kristin, Sunni and Zack, Kimberly and Cori and fifteen great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews and many friends.Rollin was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Homer. He was a proud veteran of WW II, serving in five campaigns-Omaha Beach, Belgium, Berlin, Normandy and France. Rollin recently received the Medal of Honor from France for helping to liberate France on French soil. Rollin's war memoirs are at the Eisenhower Museum in Abilene, Kansas. He later wrote a book for his family of his war memories. Rollin was a reserve police officer in Homer, a volunteer firefighter, and worked disaster relief. He was a lifetime Mason. Rollin served several years as a Music Director at Holly Springs Baptist Church. He was an active choir member of Calvary Church until age 92. Rollin was a master auto mechanic. He also held licenses in plumbing, electricity and carpentry. He could build or repair anything and loved woodworking. Rollin loved his family, his church, and serving Jesus by helping others. He was a cancer survivor.Rollin loved big band music and played piano, saxophone and clarinet. He played in bars where a young Frank Sinatra was singing.He ran quarter and half mile dirt track races with Lee Petty as a teenager.He loved to dance, learning at age 55. While dancing with the Parents Without Partners in Bossier City, he met Minerva, the woman he asked God for. He made it through the depression by boarding with a farm family during the summers. He and his brother, Boyd, worked very hard and their pay was all the food they could eat and one set of school clothes.In lieu of flowers honoring Rollin, the family suggest memorials be made to Calvary Drama Team or Calvary Building Fund.Honoring Rollin as pallbearers will be John Goodwin, Pete Sjogren, Michael Allen, Roger Smith, Bobby Jones and Stan Beard. Honorary pallbearers will be Rickey Bearden, Steve Risner, and veterans from Calvary, Don Burch, Joe Tharpe, Jerry Dillard, Adron Hallmon, T.T. Blackwell, Patrick Perilloux and Raleigh Hensley. Funeral services will be held for Rollin at Calvary Baptist Church of Homer, LA on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery in Homer. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 5-7 P.M.
