IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roger Lynn
Johnson
October 1, 1953 – February 4, 2026
Roger Lynn Johnson was born on October 1, 1953. He often said he was born 100 years too late. If you knew him, that was a statement you could believe. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, to his parents, Clarence Isaac Johnson, Jr., known as Bro, CI, and his mother, Oneil Kilpatrick Johnson, and he was the light of her life.
He left this world in a dramatic fashion, which, if he were with us today, would be a wow story that he would tell. Roger loved playing music and singing. He was an accomplished guitar, banjo, and mandolin player. He played like no one we’ve ever known and had a voice that would make angels jealous.
Roger leaves his wife, Cheryl Bridges Johnson; two wonderful children, daughter Carrie, Elizabeth Johnson Long, her husband, Chad Long, son, Miles Isaac Johnson; grandson, Marshall Long, and granddaughter, Kennedie Long Bogan, and her husband, Luke. His devoted and loving sister, Kathy, and husband, Bob Greer. Kristen and husband, Brad Reinart; nephews, John and Randy. He loved his beloved nephews in a way that just did not seem imaginable. He will be missed by many cousins and other relatives. Roger also leaves behind a great number of lifelong friends whom he loved to talk to. He was protective of everyone he loved.
Roger was blessed with the gift to pray a heartfelt prayer and silence a room to listen. He loved his Lord and Savior and worshipped faithfully at Salem Baptist Church. Roger was a talented carpenter, cowboy, and dog trainer. He spent many years on the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Department K-9 unit. He worked for Sheriff Larry Dean and Sheriff Julian Whittington. Some of his best years were spent running behind a bloodhound chasing a suspect. He was proud to go on calls for missing people, especially the elderly. He could tell many wonderful success cases of bringing the loved one home. Roger was a great storyteller and could keep your attention for hours, telling tale after tale. Some of which were mostly true.
Honoring Roger as pallbearers will be Randy Warner, Marshall Long, Bill Johnson, David Orr, Roger Malone, and Jason Vaughn. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Burl Johnson, Al Lambka, and Elvin Ervin.
We would like to invite you to the visitation on Wednesday, February 11th, 2026, at 1 PM, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana. We want this to be a time of reunion and for you to share your stories with his family. Visitation will be followed by a chapel service at 2 PM. Graveside service to follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery in Bossier City. Officiating the service will be Brother Larry Earhart and John Warner.
We would like to thank Life Path Hospice for their service to Roger and our family. From the first meeting with Lisa, wonderful care and friendship from his nurse Barbara, visits with Tamara and Marcie, who always came quickly, and all that touched our lives. His care was given with love and respect from his ever-present nephew, John Warner. He opened his home to Roger and Cheryl and was their unwavering support. Together with Roger’s wife, Cheryl, they made his journey full of love. Roger’s sister, Kathy, spent many ‘porch hours’ with Roger reliving their childhood and sharing happy moments. His daughter Carrie devoted many hours, much love, and knowledge, and was a solace to all. His son Miles could light up his Pops eyes like no one else. And thrilled Roger with his presence. Thank you to all who loved and cherished Roger and his family. We will forever keep you in our hearts.
