Rodney Barry Arnette, affectionately known as “Barry,” passed away peacefully at the age of 72 in Bossier City, Louisiana. Born on September 3, 1952, in Langdale, Alabama, Barry lived a life defined by love, integrity, and quiet strength.
A devoted husband, Barry, shared 50 cherished years of marriage with his wife, Marlene Arnette. Together, they built a legacy grounded in faith, family, and resilience. Barry was a skilled craftsman; a man who could fix anything you asked him to — a true master of his hands and heart. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life: working in the shop with his grandson Austin, playing golf with his sons, and spending meaningful time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
You could often hear Barry before you saw him — always whistling a tune — and when you did see him, it was his sparkling eyes that spoke first, a trait that lives on in his family. Barry loved hunting and fishing, and he lived by a strong work ethic that inspired everyone around him.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Nell Duke Childers; father, JW Arnette; brother, Greg Langley; and a special aunt, Erin Alford.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene Arnette; brothers, Allen Langley and Scott Langley, and sons, Paxton (Tabby), Jamie (Shannon), Chad (Jenny), and Jonathan (Kelly) Arnette. Barry’s legacy continues through his grandchildren, Kristen (Connor), Taylor, Austin (Rhyann), Justin (Shelby), Callie, Summerlyn, Lakelea, Paxton, Riley, Ledger, Allegra, August, and Ambrose Arnette, and his great-grandchildren, John Wyatt, Adeline, Jenna, and Peter Arnette.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Arnette, Jonathan Arnette, Austin Arnette, Connor Bullard, Brad Henson, Josh Bell, Brandon Warner, and Jeremy Snider. Honorary pallbearers include Bob Sutton and Jerry Staton.
Services will be officiated by Brother Harrell Shelton and held at Airline Baptist in Bossier City, Louisiana, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Barry’s life and the love he gave so freely.
Barry’s hands built more than just things — they built a family. His legacy is etched in every memory, every smile, and every moment shared. He will be deeply missed and forever honored.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who cared for Barry during his time of need, including the compassionate doctors and nurses of Willis Knighton Hospital, the dedicated teams at Cornerstone, Pathways Rehabilitation, and Life Path Hospice, with a special thanks to Sam Wiggins.
