BERNICE, LA: Graveside funeral services honoring the life of Robert R. "Dick" Thurmon, 87, were held at Old Town Cemetery in Haynesville on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer. Mr. Thurmon was born November 13, 1931 in Summerfield, Louisiana to Sam and Pauline Harrell Thurmon. He went home to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 12th following a lengthy illness. Affectionately known as Dick or Dickie, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a dairy farmer for many years and retired as an Operator with Texas Gas with over 20 years of faithful service. He, along with his wife Geraldine, were ministers to the inmates of Wade Correctional Center for over 20 years. Mr. Thurmon was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Sam Leighton Thurmon and a great-grandchild Olivia. Survivors are his wife of almost 34 years, Geraldine Moseley Thurmon; daughters, Cathy Hodge of Calhoun and Trissy Avery (David) of Summerfield; son, Steve Thurmon (Brenda) of Fayetteville, AR as well as their mother, Sandra Russell of Summerfield; step-sons Scott Lowery (Rebecca Ann) of Homer/Colquitt, LA and John Lowery of Ruston, LA; grandchildren, Thomas Kendrick (Cathi), Sarah Kendrick, Nikki Murray (Paul), Christie McCartney (Brandon), Brandi Garrett, Jody Marcel, Adam Lowery (Megan), and Cody Lowery (Beth); great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Jordan, Taylor, Morgan, Taylor, Tyler, Garrett, Gracie, Hannah, Emerson and Lydia Anne. Our family extends special thanks to Premier Hospice, especially Melissa Maddox, Veronica "Muffin" Edwards, Sharonda Ford and caregiver Gloria Fuller for the love and care shown for Mr. Thurmon over the last 3 years of his illness.
