Robert "Bob" Ray McGuirt, 70, passed away Friday, March 5, 2021.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, at Noel United Methodist Church, 520 Herndon St., Shreveport, LA. Due to COVID, masks and social distancing will be observed. Officiating will be Reverend Joseph Guo and Reverend Mimi McDowell.
Bob was born in Shreveport, LA., on January 13, 1951 to Madeline and Bobby Joe McGuirt. Bob graduated from Fair Park High School in 1969. He attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches where he was an active member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity and went on to graduate in 1973 with a degree in Business.
Bob began his career in banking with Commercial National Bank in Shreveport and remained in the banking business until his retirement from Citizens Bank in 2013. Over the course of his career, Bob helped numerous people in starting their own business and took great pride in believing in people and giving them the chance to succeed.
While banking was his profession, his two great hobbies were fishing and woodworking. A gifted fisherman, Bob joined the fishing community of Hackberry, LA and relished the decades spent on and off the water with his family. He taught them the ins and outs of fishing, cleaning their catch and, most importantly, how to celebrate with a delicious, fresh meal.
Bob was also a gifted woodworker and loved spending time building things for the people he loved. His shop was outfitted with every tool imaginable and he crafted everything from bedside tables to a rocking Clemson pirogue for a child. His deep creativity and love of art were evident in all his projects, large and small. Bob shared this love of creating with his children and grandchildren.
Bob was an excellent cook and entertainer. He would take recipes and make them his own; if a recipe called for one stick of butter, better to use two. While the food was always excellent, the meals were primarily a venue for great company and conversation, enlivened by Bob's quick wit and knack as a teller of mostly true stories.
In all aspects of his life, there was never a problem that Bob could not solve. He was a trusted advisor to friends and family and will be deeply missed.
Bob's love for life was only outmatched by his love for his family. Bob married his beloved wife, Patsy, in 1986, and together they enjoyed traveling, snow skiing, trips to National Parks and time spent enjoying their children and grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Patsy; his two children, Megan Stuermann and husband, Russell, Brad McGuirt and wife, Tess; his brother, Mike McGuirt; four precious grandchildren, Will, Avery, Ellen and Madeline; and many friends he held dear and regarded as family. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Madeline and Bobby Joe; sister, Merriane Stainbrook and stepson, Sean Pool.
