Robert Timothy Horton, M.D. ("Tim")

Robert Timothy Horton, M.D. (“Tim”), 62, passed away of natural causes on April 25, 2026 in Shreveport, La. Tim attended Byrd and Captain Shreve High Schools. He went on to get his Bachelor of Science degree from LSU-Shreveport, graduating with honors. Tim was accepted into LSU School of Medicine in 1990 where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1994. From there he went on to obtain his degree in Psychiatry from Sheppard Pratt in Baltimore, MD. Tim completed his residency in Psychiatry at both Sheppard Pratt and John Hopkins where he treated many patients who gave him accolades for his medical abilities, often speaking of how Tim cared for them in a very meaningful and compassionate way uncommon of others in his profession.

Tim struggled for the majority of his life with Bipolar 1, one of the most devastating of mental illnesses, having been diagnosed as such on his 18th birthday in 1981. Tim was determined however to become a psychiatrist, which became his dream and to be able to help others who struggled as he did. Over time the disease took its toll and he had to leave the medical profession in 2001. Tim struggled greatly from 2001 to 2026, though there were good times spent with his family who loved him very much.

Tim is predeceased by his twin daughter, Devin Anderson; his sister, Donna Noonan; his father, Felton Horton; his brother, Taylor Horton; his maternal grandparents, Jack and Rubye Lee Fallin; and his paternal grandparents, Felton Horton, Sr and Willie Mae Martin.

Tim is survived by his twin son, Caleb Anderson and his fiancé, Reign and grandson, Waylon Anderson; his mother, Janice Horton; his brother, Gary Horton; his sister, Hollie Kilgour (Andrew); his nieces, Laura Noonan, Sarah Stelly (Chris), Emily Noonan, Olivia Trakunlek (Adison), and Katie Fisher (Matthew); his aunt and uncles, Linda Ballard, Barry and Donna Fallin, and Glenn and Roxann Fallin; his step-mother, Frances McCawley and Miki Honeycutt; step-brother, Travis McCraw and step-sister, Tracy Morton.

Tim was a Christian, having been baptized in the Baptist church in his teens and then confirmed in the Catholic Church in 1982. Shortly after he was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, Tim developed a friendship with the late Father Curtis Woods of the Shreveport Diocese. Father Woods had a tremendous impact on the development of Tim’s faith and remained a wonderful friend to Tim throughout his life.

Tim was cremated, which was his wish. There will not be a memorial service, but a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Tim’s life will be set at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illnesses (NAMI).

The family would like to say a very special and heartfelt thank you to Tim’s landlord and friend, Mickey Fertitta. Mickey was a true blessing to Tim and Tim’s family, and his sincere kindness over the last 20 years will always be remembered. God Bless Mickey and his family.

Through God’s Grace Tim has been freed from his struggles and now joins his Lord and Savior and his family in Heaven. We love you Tim!
