Robbins Dwain Brobst was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on October 29, 1938 and went to be with his Savior on Friday, February 12, 2021.
Dwain graduated from Fair Park High School in 1956 and served his country in the United States Navy. He married Katherine \"Kitty\" Kleinhans, his high school sweetheart and wife of 64 years, also in 1956. They had four sons, Rob, Kenny, Tim, and Dennis. He was not just a father but a great dad to his boys. He taught them the importance of a strong work ethic. He was totally involved in his sons' baseball as he coached and umpired when his boys were in Little League. He made sure they were introduced to the outdoors, teaching them to hunt, fish, water ski, camp, and numerous other activities. He also supported his many grandchildren in whatever activities they were involved.
Dwain was a man of many talents and was an avid do-it-yourselfer. Instead of just going out and buying something, he would make or build it himself. Anything from water skis for the boys to precision screen printing equipment for his T-shirt business, Dwain could do it.
To say he had artistic talent is an understatement. He could draw, paint, and create with pencil, pen and ink, pastels, oil paints and air brush but his real passion was music, especially singing! He had a beautiful voice that he used to both entertain and serve his Lord and Savior. His accomplishments in barbershop harmony were incredible. Not only did he sing, but he traveled the world coaching numerous choruses and quartets including several international medalists. The friends he made along the way were not just friends but became his extended family. Dwain received the highest honor for his efforts when he was inducted into the Barbershop Harmony Hall of Fame on October 6, 2012.
A dedicated member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, now known as Faith Lutheran, he was steadfast in his dedication and service to the Lord. He held many roles within the church throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine \"Kitty\" Kleinhans Brobst; his three sons, Rob Brobst and partner, Sue Dickey of St. Louis, MO, Kenny Brobst and fiancée, Ramie Woodard of Choudrant, LA and Tim Brobst and wife, Lori of Shreveport, LA; his brother, Ken Brobst (Shepherd) and wife, Cindi of Benton, LA; sister-in-law, Clairece Brobst; seven grandsons; two granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family.
Dwain was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Velva Brobst; youngest son, Dennis Brobst, who was a patient at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; and brother, Dale Brobst Jr.
Honoring Dwain as pallbearers will be family and friends. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his Barbershop Harmony family.
The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Jude Children\'s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Faith Lutheran Church, 4175 Lakeshore Dr, Shreveport, LA 71109.
