Richard "Dick" Zachry

A graveside service for Richard "Dick" Stewart Zachry, Jr., 93, will be held on Monday, January 25, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent. A visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, Louisiana from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be Brother Buddy Nall. Social distancing and wearing masks will be observed. Dick was born on January 18, 1928 in Minden, Louisiana to Richard Zachry and Orie Stewart Zachry and passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021 at his home in Dixie, Louisiana. After graduating from Fair Park High School, Dick enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 18. After his honorable discharge, he attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a short time. He met Edwena Kelly and they were wed in 1951. He was baptized at the age of 26 and remained a faithful member of the Church of Christ until his death. He worked for Shell Oil Company for 35 years as a District Oil Scout. During his employment, he was President of the Oil Scouts. Retirement came at the perfect time as he was able to enjoy the birth of two granddaughters. Dick was a long-time resident of Dixie, Louisiana and enjoyed spending time with family, traveling in the RV and attending church gatherings. He was still driving and playing golf, even at 93! He will be missed so much but the memories and Christian example set before us will carry us through. Dick is preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Zachry and former wife, Edwena Kelly Zachry Wilson. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Richard Michael Zachry of Dixie, LA; daughter, Connie Zachry Breaux and husband, Steve of Idabel, OK; brother, James Murray Zachry of Shreveport, LA; granddaughters, who affectionately called him "BaBa", Taryn Breaux Nelson and husband, Blake of Tyler, TX and Jade Breaux Boyd and husband, Aaron of Bossier City, LA and great-grandchildren, Finley Nelson and Asher Nelson. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 3100 Samford Ave, Shreveport, LA 71103 or to the Church of Christ, P.O. Box 574, Vivian, LA 71082.
