Richard Leon McIlwain was born June 12, 1943 to Rozier McIlwain and Louise McIlwain, in Shreveport, LA. Richard passed away, surrounded by family on April 26,2025, after a lengthy hospital stay.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory, are his wife of almost 55 years, Linda, daughter Diana Duncan (Chris) and the apples of his eye, grandchildren, Devin and Drew. He is also survived by sisters, Reta Hunt (Kenneth) and Mary Haire (Huey), and many beloved extended family members.
Richard proudly served his country in the US Army. As a master electrician, he was respected for his quality work and service. He eventually owned the business he worked for, Graef Electric in Shreveport. He loved to cook homemade pies, bread, pizza and meatballs, to name a few of his specialties. He always looked forward to being outside, whether grilling, shooting his gun at the shooting range, tending to his yard, or going for long walks with his beloved dog, George. For several years, during the holidays, he would create lighted Christmas trees for different people in the community.
Beyond his career and simple life pleasures, as a loving husband and father, he always ensured that Linda and Diana were cared for in every way.
"Mac" was a proud grandfather to Devin and Drew. Teaching them how to ride their bikes, taking them fishing, or just spending time with them brought such a smile to his heart.
