A celebration of life will be held for Richard “Dick” Wayne Maxwell, 82, on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana.
Dick was born on September 16, 1943, to Harry William Maxwell and Flora Lydia Maxwell in Portland, Maine, and passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Dick lived a life of service, adventure, and quiet dedication. He married the love of his life, Sharon, in 1966, and they shared a lifetime of memories together. Dick served a tour in the United States Marines in 1960, then went on to build a long and honorable career in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. His time in the military took him on extensive travels, and between deployments, he spent three months touring the United States with his parents in a small truck camper, a trip filled with exploration, family, and the kind of memories that last a lifetime. After his military service, he earned his commercial pilot’s license and flew for Koch Industries, continuing his lifelong love of aviation.
Dick was a man of many interests. He was an avid fisherman who loved being on the water, whether he was casting a line, paddling a canoe, or kayaking through quiet bayous. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, camping, and just being outdoors. But more than anything, he had a heart for service. He was a dedicated leader in the Bayou Chapter of the Ozark Society, where he spent countless hours maintaining trails, cleaning up waterways, and teaching paddling skills to the public during National Hunting and Fishing Day and at the Red River National Wildlife Refuge.
He gave his time freely and lived with purpose, always looking for ways to give back to his community. Whether it was through conservation work or simply lending a hand where it was needed, Dick made a difference. His legacy is one of strength, generosity, and love, for his country, for nature, and most of all, for his family.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Flora Staples Maxwell of Bethel, Maine; his sister, Barbara Maxwell Felter; his brother, Robert Maxwell; and his niece, Heidi Furcinite Lockman.
He is survived by his sister, Janice Maxwell Furcinite; nieces, Deborah Felter Potter, Tammy Felter Brown, and Christine Furcinite Reynolds; and nephews, Stephen Felter, Michael Felter, and Shawn Maxwell.
Dick also leaves behind many dear friends and a community of people who were touched by his generosity, his service, and his caring spirit.
