Richard “Dick” Oral Dolloff, age 88, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Memorial Day, May 26, 2025, to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Southside, 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., preceding the service. Chris Beecher, his grandson, will be officiating.
Born on November 17, 1936, in Brunswick, Maine, Dick was the son of Clifford and Emma Dolloff. At the age of 18, he joined the United States Air Force, where he was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana. It was there that he met and married his beloved wife, Jeanette Young.
Dick had a deep love for his country, his community, and his family. After his time in the Air Force, he went on to serve as a deputy for the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Department, where he retired after years of dedicated service. His commitment to his work and his community never wavered.
A faithful member of Temple Baptist Church and Summer Grove Baptist Church, Dick served as a deacon and found great joy singing in the church choir. He was a man of strong faith, always willing to serve others, and cherished his church family.
In addition to his work and faith, Dick was a devoted family man. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He and his wife, Jeanette, made many treasured memories over the years, including annual trips to Maine to visit family. Dick will be fondly remembered for his warm spirit, his unwavering love for those he held dear, and his passion for life. His annual Friday night card games and domino sessions with his close friends, including the Horne’s, Lee’s, and Mangham’s, were some of the highlights of his life.
Though he called Shreveport home for more than 65 years, Dick never lost his Maine roots. His distinctive accent, which always reminded those around him of his origins, was a beloved feature that stayed with him throughout his life.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Ronna Beecher (Fred); two grandsons, Chris Beecher (Joann) and Nathan Beecher; one granddaughter, Macie Voelschow (Michael); ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including his special cousin and niece, Nancy Currier of Farmington, Maine, and Sherri Norris of Longview, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette; his son, Russell Dolloff; his sister, Dorothy Cuthbertson (Don); his brother, Bobby Dolloff; his sister-in-law, Rose Gragg; brothers-in-law, Jack Atkins and Bill Young; and his special niece, Meredith Rose Norris.
The family expresses deep gratitude to the best of friends, Mark & Cheryl Connella, for their constant presence and prayers as Dick took his final breath. A heartfelt thank you also goes to Melvin Jenkins, his devoted roommate, who was a true friend and watched over Dick in his final years.
A special thanks is also extended to the Veteran’s Home for the exceptional care they provided during Dick’s later years, and to Bristol Hospice for their compassionate care during his final days.
Dick’s life was a testament to the words of Philippians 1:21: “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” He will be deeply missed by his family and friends but will be forever remembered for the love, joy, and faith he brought to everyone he encountered.
