Services to celebrate the life of Richard Evans Calvert will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2025, at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church in Mansfield, Louisiana.
Richard passed away April 22, 2025. Visitation will be held May 9, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall at the church.
Richard was born on December 23, 1951, to Walter and Marjorie Calvert, in Mansfield, Louisiana. Richard spent all his life in Mansfield, graduating from Mansfield High School in 1969.
His love for golf led him to employment with Old Oakes Country Club in Bossier City, Louisiana and then back home as club manager of Mansfield Golf & Country Club. Richard was a scratch golfer and loved the game, having won club championships for 4 years. He and his sons played in the father, son, golf tournaments at the Mansfield course. He also enjoyed hunting with his sons, Richie and Elliott, when they were young boys.
He was a talented musician, teaching himself to play the guitar. Richard played bass guitar in a local band named the Chaparrals, whose members were friends at Mansfield High School. There is a rumor they were the opening act for The Loving Spoonful back in the day!
Richard loved people and was so beloved by everyone he met. He was generous with his sense of humor and will be remembered for it. His love of animals was clear by all the strays he took in, loved, and cared for. Richard’s intellect, curious nature, and witty wisdom were seen by everyone who was close to him, and he was always reading to satisfy his desire to learn.
Richard had a great love of God, and we know He was an important part of his life. We have peace knowing he is with his Lord and Savior. These brief segments do not tell the whole story of Richard and his life. He is special and will be missed by many.
He is predeceased by his parents.
Survived by his sons, Richard Evans Calvert, Jr., and Elliott Calvert and wife Suzette; grandchildren, Sarah Margaret Calvert and John Evans Calvert; stepdaughter, Kari Dennison Allen; siblings, Jean Calvert, Bill Calvert and Karen, Dollye Villena and Steve Calvert; niece, Isabel Villena, and nephews, Alejo Villena, Scott Stone and Calvert Stone.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to BFF of Desoto Animal Services, 404 Liberty Lane, Grand Cane, Louisiana 71032 or a charity of choice.
