Reba Nell Silvis

February 27, 1944 — January 18, 2023

Reba Nell Silvis

With deep sorrow but also with comfort for the peace she now has at rest in Heaven, we share the passing of our beloved Mother, Reba Smith Thurmon Silvis. Reba has been our family matriarch for many years, and she was highly respected and deeply loved by her family and those who knew her. She was a faithful Christian and was confident that she would be with her Lord as she passed from this life. Her joy was obvious when she listened to her favorite old time gospel music. She was 78 and died peacefully in the midst of her family on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at her home at The Oaks of Louisiana in Shreveport.

Reba was born February 27, 1944 in Camden, Arkansas, raised in Bernice, Louisiana and raised her family primarily in West Monroe, Louisiana. In 2018 she moved to Shreveport, Louisiana with her second husband, Larry Silvis. After Larry passed in 2019, Reba moved to The Oaks of Louisiana in Shreveport in September 2022.

Reba loved her immediate and extended family with passionate joy and they loved her the same way. She was always at her best when she was spending time with her family and friends having fun at home, visiting others and traveling, especially RV camping. Reba enjoyed and was well accomplished in many talents: cooking, sewing, gardening and woodworking, to name a few. She was a woman of many talents. We will miss her dearly and love her forever.

Reba is survived by her four children, Danita Thurmon Gerbrecht and husband, John, Alisa Thurmon Hankins and husband, Brad, Tracie Thurmon Brice and husband, Jim and Darrell Thurmon; her 11 grandchildren, Josh Gerbrecht, Justin Gerbrecht, Christi Hankins Waller and husband, Chad, Chad Hankins and wife, Julie, Cara Hankins Bray and husband, Alex, Katie Brice Raddatz and husband, Scott, Keaton Brice, Alaina Brice, Abbi Thurmon, Ava Thurmon, Andi Thurmon; three step-grandchildren, Dena Gerbrecht and wife, Erin, Dawn Gerbrecht Kelly and husband, Steve and Jeremy Gerbrecht and wife, Jennifer; four great-grandchildren, Wrenley Waller, Elodie Hankins, Camden Hankins, and Delilah Raddatz; one step great-grandchild, Lila Bray; her sisters-in-laws, Rita Smith and Sharon Smith and many nephews, nieces, cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Irene Oliver Smith and James Carlton Smith; her first husband, Ford Russell Thurmon; her second husband, Larry Glenn Silvis; her brothers, Jerry Maurice Smith and James Oliver Smith and her sister, Theresa Ann Smith Taylor and her husband, John Walter Taylor.
