Raymond L. Brazzell went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 23, 2026, following a brief illness at Ochsner LSU Medical Center. He was born the fifth of nine children to James O. Brazzell & Evelyn Thompson Brazzell on November 23, 1949, in Jonesville, Louisiana.
Born into a strong Christian family, he attended Deville Church of God in Deville, Louisiana, where his love for music began within a family whose musical roots would run deep. He brought much joy and happiness to his friends and family with his voice and musical talent.
Raymond was a graduate of Block High School in Jonesville, Louisiana, as a member of the class of 1970. While attending Block High School, he was a member of the Block Bears football team, which became District 3-A champions in 1966.
Following graduation, Raymond worked for many years in the oil field industry on both offshore and land-based rigs with Explorer Drilling Company. Eventually becoming a derrickman, working high above the rig floor in a position not for the faint of heart, he developed a desire for a career change. With the encouragement of those close to him, he accepted an entry-level position with Winn-Dixie, where he showed great promise as a meat cutter, earning him the opportunity to attend butcher school through the company. Throughout the years, he worked in the meat departments of several prominent grocery chains before finding his home at County Market, where he devoted over 20 years as a meat cutter and later department manager, retiring in 2022.
Above all else, nothing brought him greater joy than being a father to his beloved daughters, Kim & Becky. His daughters were in so many ways his greatest accomplishment, his pride, and the gentlest pieces of himself he sent out into the world.
In 1975, a chance meeting brought him to Linda Diane Wedgeworth, the love of his life, who would become his wife and lifelong partner in 1981. Together, they created a life and love story worthy of the pages in a book. Across more than four decades, they endured life’s storms together, bending like the oak yet never breaking, their love and commitment never wavering.
Raymond was a man who gave freely of himself to others with no expectations in return. True to his country’s roots, he delighted in evenings spent around a bonfire with friends and family, where music played, and stories grew taller with every telling.
Raymond is preceded in death by his beloved parents; his brothers Johnny, James, David, and Glen; and his sister, Joyce.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his daughters, Kim (George) and Becky (Jason); his grandchildren, Tyler Pearson, Zachary Pearson (Megan), Timothy Pearson Jr., and Jaci Miller,; his great-grandchildren, Elijah Pearson, Evangeline “Evie” Pearson, and Madeleine “Rosie” Pearson; sisters, Patsy (Harold), Shirley (Brad) and brother, Paul (Michelle) as well as countless nieces, nephews & friends.
Paul Bearers include Avery Belgarde, Steven Crook, Justin Hammontree, Tyler Pearson, Zachary Pearson, Weston Pender, & Jason Steele
