Pleasant was born on February 21, 1921 to Joseph Warren Burns and Edna Shaw Burns in Springhill, Louisiana and passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

It's difficult to witness the end of a life that gave you life. Pleasant Nathaniel Burns, Papaw, was the patriarch to a large and loving family. He was a rock when it was needed and a loving listener in times of need. Always a true believer and follower, there is no doubt that he is now spending Christmas in heaven with Zinnie, his precious wife of 66 years.

A proud WWII veteran, he served in both the European and Pacific Theaters although he was reluctant to share much about his time served. He would, however, share his experiences of growing up on the farm, the Great Depression, and his views of the working man. When asked, “How are you Papaw?” he would always respond, “I never had it so good.”

An avid hunter, even into his 90’s, he did more to diminish the quail population than most ever will. Never one to throw anything away, Papaw would deconstruct almost any broken appliance and somehow make it work again.

Whenever one of his family would tell him that they loved him, Papaw would always respond, “I love you more.”

We will honor his legacy and the depth of his love of life and family will be everlasting in our hearts.

Pleasant is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, 10 sisters, great-granddaughter, Landree and his beloved wife, Zinnie. Left to cherish his memory is his son, Ronnie Burns and wife, Sina; daughters, Susan George and husband, Lake, and Patricia Miller and husband, Lindy; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Honoring Pleasant as pallbearers will be Ragan Burns, Jason Miller, Lake George, Dennis Bamburg, Todd Walker, Walker Owens, Jack Walker and London George.

The family would like to thank his dedicated caregivers, Walhina Jackson, Noel Washington and Melanie Blackwell for their devoted care for Dad as well as the Montclair staff and The Blake.
