Phyliss' family migrated from Oklahoma to Andrews, Texas in the late 1940's. Phyliss was involved in twirling for the band, played the clarinet, archery, golf and was very involved with Andrews Church of Christ. Phyliss met Bill Sr. at church one Sunday evening. Bill was wearing a gold suit and Phyliss was smitten. They were married in 1960 and started their family in 1961 with Billy Jr. Deborah and Bradley would soon follow. They lived in various locations throughout Texas, traveling with the oilfield.

While living in Palestine, Texas she was employed as an Administrator Assistant for the Superintendent of Palestine ISD. In the early 90's, Bill & Phyliss settled in Shreveport, Louisiana where they attended University Church of Christ. Both were actively involved with their church homes throughout the years. Phyliss loved her church family and was involved with various activities and groups within the church. She especially enjoyed being involved with the Widows' Group and being "the chauffer".
