Phillip Steven Morris

Phillip Steven Morris, 74, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at his residence in Converse LA after a lengthy illness. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, December 9 at First Baptist Church of Converse. Bro. Brian Rankin will officiate.

Phil was born on February 7, 1950 in Odessa TX to Melvis Eugene and Tonie Paxton Morris. He graduated from Catholic High School in New Iberia LA in 1968, where he played football. His sons were active in Boy Scouts, and he was so very proud to have them both achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. In 1997 he moved to Toledo Bend and developed Dreamcatcher Camping RV Campground from the ground up. He retired in 2014 from campground owner. In retirement, he discovered that streaming TV carried all games of the LSU 2019 National Championship season, and he enjoyed them again - and again - and again. He truly loved anything associated with water: boats, scuba diving, sailing, fishing, shrimping. In view of his avid interests, the family is encouraging those who attend this service to dress casually in anything LSU purple-and-gold or in clothes that show watersports. Phil would certainly be pleased to see such a gathering.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents Melvis Eugene and Tonie Paxton Morris, and by his son John Phillip Morris. He is survived by Fran, his beloved wife of 53 years, his son Michael Curtis Morris, and his brother Carl Michael Morris and wife Edana of Mont Belvieu TX. Also left to cherish his memory are brothers-in-law Elva Joseph “Skipper” Scroggins of Albuquerque NM, John William “Bill” Scroggins and wife Kay of Tyler TX, Jerome Scroggins and wife DeDe of Church Point LA, and sisters-in-law Linda Scroggins of New Orleans and Carol Polito of Lafayette LA, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the staff at Superior Hospice Mansfield for their gentle and concerned care of Phil and the entire family. In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org) to advance research in all areas of dementia.
