Arcadia - Peggy Smith Myers was born June 8, 1937, daughter of John D. Smith and Juanita Spring Smith. She went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at her home in Arcadia, LA.
Services will be held Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Arcadia. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff Hoffman. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Interment will follow at Woodard Cemetery in Taylor, LA.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Raleigh Lehane Myers, their son, Terry Lehane Myers (Brittney) of Houston, TX, granddaughters Sarah Myers Cummings (Chris) of Beebe, AR and Tess Myers of Jonesboro, LA. She was great grandmother to her very special Bayln Cummings and Emma Cummings of Beebe, AR. She is also survived by her sister, Mabel Smith Coussons of Bossier City, LA and her special "Buddy", Tisha Newsom and her husband John Newsom. Peggy had numerous extended family and friends that will miss her very much.
Preceding Peggy in death was her father, John D. Smith and mother, Juanita Smith and her brother-in-law, Jack S. Coussons.
Peggy will be remembered for her loving giving, and hope-filled heart. She fought the disease of cancer bravely for 10 long years, rarely ever complaining and living her life to the fullest. She would encourage others and remain positive about herself. Every member of her "Hope" Sunday School class was special to her, and she loved spending time with her family and friends.
Honoring Peggy as pallbearers will be Tim Nutt, Tyler Nutt, Matt Myers, Mark Myers, Kelly Kyle, Philip J. Defatta, Herb Coussons and Don Myers.
The family wishes to thank Peggy's doctor, Dr. Gary Burton, the Feist-Weiller cancer team, and the care givers of AIME Hospice Care.
In lieu of flowers, Peggy would like memorial donations to be made to Arcadia First Baptist Church, 2249 Hazel St, Arcadia, LA 71001, St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905 or Feist-Weiller Cancer Center, P.O. Box 33932, Shreveport, LA 71130-3932.
Peggy's kind and sweet spirit will be greatly missed.
