Peggy Sue McCormack Mathews, 85, passed from this life to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, in Shreveport, Louisiana.Peggy was born March 22, 1940 to Rev. B. H. “Trigger” McCormack and Magalene McCormack. She graduated from Fair Park High School and was married to John “Mert” Mathews of Winnfield, Louisiana for 61 years and had two sons, David Mathews and Robert Mathews.
Peggy went on to build a remarkable 30‑plus‑year career with Willamette Industries in Ruston, beginning as a secretary and ultimately becoming the company’s first saleswoman before retiring in Shreveport.
A devoted lifelong member of the Baptist Church, she found joy in fellowship, worship, and the time she spent with her church family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John “Mert” Mathews; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Bomar; sisters, Mary Ruth Davis, Jo Nell Sanders and Rita Moore.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, David Mathews of LaPlace, LA., Robert Mathews and wife, Jeanette Mathews of Keithville, LA, and sister, Dorothy “Dot” Collins of Choudrant, LA; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, LA. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 601 US-80 West in Haughton, LA. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the service at Rose-Neath. Officiating the service will be Pastor Roger Morton of Barron Road Baptist Church.
Honoring Peggy as pallbearers will be Tyson Mathews, Dale Davis, Ryan Collins, Caleb Mathews, Michael Davis and Tony Sachs.
The family would like to give a special thanks to daughter-in-law, Jeanette Mathews for all her love and support in taking loving care of Mom in her final years!
Peggy will be terribly missed, but the family will continue to cherish the time we had with her and all the beautiful memories we shared together.
